Rules

Pick a strange rule in Leviticus and write about how you can make it relevant and poignant for your life.

  1. Leviticus 19:32 "You shall rise before the aged, and defer to the old, and you shall fear your God. I am the Lord."

Maybe we aged should take this advice to heart ourselves. Sometimes we are so busy fending off old age, we forget the value age plays in the scheme of things. We have learned so much during our lives. We need to pass this wisdom along , and if we are tripping along on high heels, with dyed hair and age defying makeup, we won't be very convincing.

Yes! We can look our best. Yes! We can stay in good shape and preserve our health! Yes! We should make an effort, but we should remember too, that we are an example to the younger generation coming up. Let's not focus on trying to hide from old age, but to see how much we can get out of being old. There is a lot to be said for it.

  2. Well said! If we can embrace it, they won't fear it so much! It has some advantages after all!

Yes, I know it’s only half a verse and out of context, but…..

    All fat is the Lord’s,

    Or in another version:

All fat belongs to the Lord

    I like that even better,
Knowing that I’m just holding it for God.
While I’m hiding it shaming it, deploring its existence,
God says, "I love this part of you too,
    all of it."

    I could go further,
but I don’t want to saturate,
    or infatuate.

    It would make this fatuous
    And fatiguing.
