When the flame danced around me… When trouble was near… When I couldn’t see the way out… When there was no plan B and plan A had crumbled… Those were the times… When I saw the miracles When the waters parted When the dead were raised And I was given new eyes
When I didn’t think I could do it… And the end was near… When there was no hope… And the better part of valor was to pack it in… That is when the healing came The veil cleared And the breath was deeper
I am a better person because I have been troubled I am a better man because I have failed I have faith because I have struggled I am a wiser elder because I have been to unknowable places places where I never would have chosen to go but that is where life took me and in that fire I was changed
And because of that I am here to tell you: You will have no choice about the fire. You are already being prepared. All the wise people you know have already begun their journey in the fire. And it is as bad and as promising as you have ever believed.
Stories of people lighting little candles or bonfires of kindness: People who don’t give up on themselves or others; Families reuniting, forgiving, caring for each other, Yet respecting different viewpoints; People from a few to groups to organizations who make a difference in lives of others; People with whom I can laugh at myself and we can find humor in our common blunders. Artwork, books, music, and nature, evidence of the Spirit moving us to see and enjoy the wonders of life; Worshiping and working with faith communities, as we learn, gain understanding and respond to our calls to keep the fires of Love burning.
So we have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them. I John 4:16 NRSV
